Today is May Day in Italy - a national holiday sort of like our Labor Day - and it was a holiday (free day) for our group. Most everyone was shopping in the street market this morning then in the afternoon we joined the crowds to watch a parade and some of the annual Florence Flag Throwing competition. Participants dressed in Renaissance costumes toss large flags in the air to one another with lots of finesse and skill. There's a panel of judges who determine which team performs best and they get the trophy. You never know what you're going to see happening in Florence. It's a great place to be! Stay tuned for more - we go to Cinque Terre tomorrow.
