Five in Italian is "cinque", lands in Italian is "terre". Today we went to the Cinque Terre, a collection of five charming villages hanging from the cliffs by the Ligurian Sea which is part of the larger Mediterranean Sea. We began our two and a half hour train ride in Florence then made a very quick change of trains in Pisa and onward to La Spezia where we boarded a very crowed local train that drops tourists (and a few locals) at each of the towns. Monterosso was first, then we spent a couple of hours in Vernazza for lunch and shopping. Manarola was our third village where we got some great iconic photo shots of the colorful houses and marina. We ended the day with a 7 pm train back to Florence, arriving just before ten o'clock. A long day for sure, but one we will long remember.
