Our first full day in Florence started with an orientation meeting in the courtyard then we were out on the streets for most of the day. First stop was the Mercarto Centrale (central food market) just a couple of blocks from La Contessina. The market building covers an entire block and is full of all things good (and some questionable) to eat. Italians shop every day or two and eat more fresh foods and meats than we Americans. Onward through the street market and back to the Duomo (cathedral)we became more familiar with our way around this part of the city. We ventured further to the old city hall piazza and finally to the river and the old bridge (now full of jewelry shops). Our lunch stop was delightful and we enjoyed the "sit down" and the good food and wine selections. Turning back toward home we passed some interesting sights you will see in the photographs. A grocery store stop brought our Florence discovery walk to an end for today. Stay tuned, more coming . . .
