On Monday we were off to the northwest part of Italy to visit the charming villages of the Cinque (Five) Terre (Lands). These colorful small towns have become a favorite of tourists coming to Italy over the last decade and thousands of us were there today! The rocky cliffs reach the waters of the Mediterranean along the shore and terraced gardens and vineyards climb up the green mountainsides. The five villages are Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiori. We traveled by the local train to three of them and enjoyed a full day of sightseeing. Andrew and Susan took to the hills on the hiking trail from Monterosso to Corniglia and met us again at the train station at the end of the day - we also saw them for a few minutes when we were in Vernazza having lunch. It was a long day, but one we'll always remember - hope you enjoy our many photos. More later . . .
