Just in Case . . .

Sometimes we have glitches with the internet connection in Italy so if nothing appears here for a few days that's what's happening. We'll try to get it fixed but who knows what's happening out there in cyber space!

Sept 18 - Lovin' Lovely Lucca

Our first train ride together took us to the lovely Tuscany city of Lucca.  An hour and twenty minutes from Florence and we were in a totally different "world".  The old city is contained inside the two and a half miles of walls completed in 1650.  The earthen and brick faced walls are 100 feet wide at the base and 40 feet tall.  The top of the walls has been made into a lovely park area that locals and visitors love to walk, cycle and run around.  Begun as a Roman colony there is still evidence of the amphitheater that now lies beneath Anfiteatro Piazza.  Ringed with outside cafes and shops, the piazza is a popular place to spend some leisurely time.  We all enjoyed our day in Lucca and agree that it really is quite lovely.  Come back later to see what's up . . .
