We were off on our first train trip today as we took the fast train (2 hours) up to Venice - The Floating City. Set on an island with canals throughout, Venice is the only truly pedestrian city in Europe. No cars, no motor scooters, no bicycles - all traffic is either on the water or by foot. We were delighted to see the Orient Express train in the station as we arrived - it was very elegant - of course we took photos! Next we were floating down the Grand Canal on a vaporetto (a city bus on water). This gave us an opportunity to admire all the buildings and various boats that go up and down the canal. A little rain in the afternoon did not keep us from enjoying our time in this unique Italian city along with thousands of other tourists - it was indeed a treat for the senses. Come along as you view the photos - stay tuned, more later . . .
