Our plan was to stay in Florence today and see some more of the city. We started out in the cloister at San Lorenzo then stopped by to see a wooden friend for a little photo fun. Our next stop was the leather school at Santa Croce church. The school was established after World War II to teach young boys from the streets a trade. Now it's a privately owned business still in the old monastery at the church. So here's the big surprise - we had just arrived at the school when a storm suddenly blew up and hail the size of marbles fell in a torrent! Wind was blowing wildly and trees were snapped. It lasted about half an hour and Florence was left with a mess to clean up. It was truly unbelievable - we were lucky to be in a church and not walking in the streets when it happened! Wow - what an experience! But we carried on and the day ended just fine. We're off to Venice tomorrow - stay tuned . . .
