Just in Case . . .

Sometimes we have glitches with the internet connection in Italy so if nothing appears here for a few days that's what's happening. We'll try to get it fixed but who knows what's happening out there in cyber space!

Oct. 3 - Florence & Fiesole Tour

Saturday was our day to take the red hop-on-op-off bus tour around Florence and up into the Tuscan hills to Fiesole.  Before we boarded the bus we made quick stop at the Folingno Cenacola - a Last Supper fresco painting from the 1400's at a former convent on our street.  Sitting on the upper deck of the tour bus gave us birds-eye views of all the sights we passed along the way.  At Fiesole we got off and spent some time there.  A challenging hike up a steep lane brought us up to a terraced area where we were able to see all of greater Florence.  About 500,000 people live in the area and from this viewpoint we could see the outlying suburbs, the soccer stadium and more green areas than we can see on foot in the historic section where we "live".  Some of us enjoyed a nice lunch in Fiesole then hopped back on the bus for a stop at Piazza Michelangelo where the "Green David" greeted us.  Actually it is an exact replica of Michelangelo's masterpiece in bronze that has turned green with age.  From this venue we could get a closer view of the city below us with an opportunity to get great photos which you will see below.  Back "home" again we unwound at the courtyard "wine down" and talked about what we'll be doing in the next few days - come back and see. . .
